Every fencer in Wales, whatever his or her standard, benefits from the services provided by Welsh Fencing (WF) which is the governing body for fencing in Wales. Through your membership you will be helping provide services which are vital for yourself as well as for other fencers.
Insurance: Unless you are affiliated YOU ARE NOT INSURED for fencing. All WF members are covered by a Worldwide scheme which provides benefits in the event of an accident whilst fencing. Third party liability covers fencers up to £2 million (and Registered Coaches up to £5 million). Fencers with coaching qualifications who require Formal Registration, (so that they are insured for coaching), must write directly to:British Fencing Association, 1 Baron’s Gate, 33-35 Rothschild Road, London W4 5HT,.
Coaching: Welsh Fencing encourages the growth of fencing at grass roots level by organising promotional activities, “taster’ sessions, and new classes in conjunction with local authorities and Clubs. Courses are organised regularly for all levels and all weapons.
Proficiency Awards: Welsh Fencing administers a system of 9 awards which enable fencers to measure their fencing skills. It also organises personal performance courses and club visits to improve fencers’ standards.
Newsletter. All WF members receive the quarterly WF Newsletter giving details of local clubs and news.
“The Sword”: The “Sword’ is the journal of the British Fencing Association and is sent to Full Members and to Junior Full Members quarterly, free of charge. The ‘Sword” reports on the latest news and views, both in the UK and internationally.
Competitions: Welsh Fencing organises Championships for all weapons and all age ranges. It selects and trains Welsh teams to compete in events, both in the UK and abroad, including the Quadrangular (4 Home Countries), the Winton Cup, and the Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
Clubs: All fencing clubs in Wales are invited to affiliate to WF. Affiliated clubs may enter teams competitions, and organise competitions and officials of affiliated clubs are covered by the insurance scheme, whether individual members or not. There is a separate application form for clubs.
